MILES LEADS AFTER WORLD CUP DRESSAGE
TEMECULA, CA -Spending some time in Germany working on her horse's canter paid off for Gina Miles of Creston, CA in the dressage phase of the FEI World Cup Qualifier (CIC***) and International Horse Trials at Galway Downs on Friday, March 30. A score of 47.7 on her 13-year-old Irish Sport Horse gelding, McKinlaigh gave her a comfortable lead over the second place finisher, Grant Hemingway on board Nieco, who finished with a penalty score of 52.1.
Miles, who took her horse to Germany to work on dressage, was pleased with the performance.
"He's getting better," she said. "I was very happy with his canter work."
David Adamo made the trip from Petaluma to Temecula pay off when he took the lead after the dressage phase of CIC**. A score of 49.4 on His 10-year-old Oldenburg, ERISA Edward Jordan, was just enough to edge out local rider Hawley Bennett aboard SplendoroftheSun with a score of 50.6. Coming in third was Anne Carr of Everson, WA aboard Safari, a 8-year-old Dutch Warmblood gelding, with a penalty score of 50.9.
Adamo, whose horse recently moved up to the CIC** level, was happy with the performance.
"He felt great," he said. "He was moving the best he can."
Julie Ann Boyer of Agua Dulce, CA had the first day lead after the dressage phase of CIC*. She finished with a score of 47.5 aboard Rumor Hazit, a 6-yeard-old Thoroughbred. Second was Tara McKenna Polkabla of Briones Valley, CA on Current Leader, an 8-year-old Thoroughbred gelding with a penalty score of 48.6. Competing for Republic of South African, San Diegan Kate Gillespie on Renegade Reno was third with a penalty score of 51.1.
Dressage is the first day of competition at Galway Downs for the FEI Eventing World Cup, which runs from March 30 to April 1.
Eventing or Horse Trials is an English equestrian event, referred to as the triathlon of equestrian sports comprising of three phases held over three days - dressage, cross-country, and show jumping.
An international field, which includes more than 300 riders from around the world and their very talented horses, are competing for points, prestige and more than $15,000 in prize money at Galway Downs, a world class equestrian facility in Temecula that sits in the heart of the 2,000-acre Valle de los Caballos (Valley of the Horses).
The event his year will also include a touch of nearby Wine Country. Keyways Vineyard & Winery will be pouring its wine and offering its Wine Club members VIP seating at the FEI Eventing World Cup.
On Saturday, spectators can pick up a picnic lunch for two and head out to watch the exciting Cross Country competition. Enjoy a smoked chicken salad and a tri-tip sandwich, bottle of Chardonnay or sparkling water, pasta salad, fruit and a cookie.
On Sunday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. sit down to Presto's catered cuisine at the Keyways Wine Pairing Luncheon in the VIP tent.
VIP tickets for each weekend event are $55 per person and include admission, VIP parking, lunch, wine, beer and soft drinks

The United States Eventing Association (USEA) Gold Cup Series
is based on a cumulative points structure. Competitors are awarded
