SEXSON, COUDRAY SHARE THE LEAD AFTER FEI WORLD CUP CROSS COUNTRY

TEMECULA, Calif. -- The lead in the FEI World Cup Qualifier (CIC***)

changed hands after overnight leader Gina Miles withdrew from

competition opening the door for Tiana Courdray, Carmel Valley, CA, and Jolie

Sexson, Martinez, CA, to take over the top spot. Both posted strong performances in the cross country phase of the three-day event at Galway Downs.

Coudray aboard King Street, a 10-year-old gelding, and Sexson on

Killian O’Connor, a 7-year-old Irish Sports Horse, both finished the

approximately 2-mile cross country course penalty free with identical

scores of 54.8.

Sexson said her young horse performed well despite a “tough” course. “I’m thrilled to be in the position I am in,” said Sexson, who is preparing to go to Rolex Kentucky in a month’s time.

Coudray was not surprised at the top finish even though her horse moved up to CIC*** only last year. “He’s very good at cross country,” she said. “He was little strong in the beginning but settled down a bit as we went along.”

Finishing third was Kelly Prather, Bodega Bay, CA, aboard Ballinakill

Glory, a 7-year-old Irish Sport Horse mare, with a score of 57.7.

Canadian Hawley Bennett, who lives in Temecula, took over the lead in

CIC** after finishing cross country with a score of 50.6. She rode

SplendoroftheSun, a 10-year-old Thoroughbred gelding. Debbie Rosen, Calabasas, Ca, moved up three spots to second with a score of 53.8 on penalty-free ride on The Alchemyst, a 7-year-ld Canadian Sport Horse gelding. Lucy Lippon, Cave Creek, AZ, jumped to third on board Don’t Step Back, a 15-year-old Irish Sport Horse gelding.

Julie Ann Boyer of Agua Dulce, CA kept her lead after the cross

country phase of the CIC* competition. She finished with a score of

47.5 aboard Rumor Hazit, a 6-year-old Thoroughbred. Second was Tara

McKenna Polkabla of Briones Valley, CA on Current Leader, an

8-year-old Thoroughbred gelding, with a score of 48.6.

Alexandra Knowles of Bonsall, CA moved up a spot to finish third

after the CCI* cross country with a score of 51.4 aboard Last Call, a

Warmblood mare.
